The Inspiration

When I was a little girl there was nothing I wanted more than a chimp.  Not sure where that desire came from, perhaps from watching Tarzan, but I never did get a real chimp. I did get a stuffed chimp but we all know that is not the same.

I fell in love with this chimp, he is an older chimp and when I painted him I kind thought this is how old my chimp would probably be if I had got him when I was a little girl.

This painting was juried into the Del Mar Fair Fine Art Exhibit.

This painting received an honorary award from the Escondido Municipal Art Gallery.

   The Making of Old Chimp

Quick Note

Chimps can use sign language to convey a message. The strength of an adult chimp is seven times that of the human.  It is interesting to note that we share DNA with chimps to the extent of 98%.

Nearly all chimpanzee populations have been recorded using tools. They modify sticks, rocks, grass, and leaves and use them when foraging for honey, termites, ants, nuts, and water.

Conservation Status

[ x ] Endangered. Chimpanzees are nearing extinction in many countries. The biggest threats to the chimpanzee are habitat loss, poaching, and disease. Some hundreds have been kept in laboratories for research, especially in America.
